One of the primary purposes Fr. McGivney had in mind when he founded the
Knights of Columbus in 1882 was the care of the widows of departed members
of his fraternity. In Father Rosensteel Council, the widows of members are
encouraged to remain an integral part of the Council family, and many
continue to participate in council activites. Additionally, they are
invited to join in our officially sponsored social support group, Mary's
Widows. The ladies meet once a month at a local restaurant for a well
attended luncheon meeting. Twice a year their luncheons are catered and served
by Council members at the Council home. Each of the other luncheons are
coordinated by two volunteer hostesses from within the group.
Mary's Widows annually elect a chairlady who works with Brother William
Fenton, PFN, to coordinate their activities with the Council.
Any lady whose husband, at the time of his death, was a member in good
standing of Father Rosensteel Council is eligible for membership in
Mary's Widows and is cordially invited to join us at our meetings.
